There are many different kinds and examples of resumes, such as the chronological resume, the functional resume, a combination resume etc. Free resume samples of each of these can be obtained from the internet.
And then there are targeted resumes, of which also free resume samples are available, however, with a targeted resume, one needs to be a little careful. This is because by definition this is a targeted resume; or one that is aimed specifically at a particular job, its specific requirements in terms of educational qualifications, personal skills and abilities and industry experience. So here, while you can take general pointers from a free resume, you have to make sure that the final draft of your resume is tailored to meet the requirements of the job and that it dovetails with the particular qualifications needed for it.
One way to make a targeted resume would be to add a brief targeted summary on top of your existing resume sample. This can feature your career highlights which are particularly apposite or pertinent to the position that you are applying for. As far as possible the summary qualifications should as closely as possible, correlate with the job advert.
Then again, you could redraft your resume sample by first reviewing the job description and then applying your own credentials to match it as far as possible. With a little effort you can make a targeted resume by tying to match your own skills, experiences and qualifications to the requirements of the job as closely as possible, so that you can appear as the perfect fit for the job.
You can do this step by step: it the job you are seeking is of supervisory position, it is most important that you include all relevant details about previous experiences you have had in a supervisory position. Similarly, when applying for an executive position, you should be able to substantiate your experiences in that level of the organisation, and how much value you were able to add to that previous position of yours.
If is important to remember that a resume can only do so much for you and beyond a point there is little that will carry forward from your resume into the actual job interview. What the resume does is it offers that all important first impression, and it is this one document that will precede you and make it possible to land that all important interview in the first place.
This is why you must make your sample resume the best that you can. This can be done by reviewing a number of free resume samples on the net, in a variety of styles including but not limited to targeted resumes, and then decide for yourself which is the correct one for you to adopt as your own resume sample. Do not blindly follow the many free resume samples that are available; rather make sure that the format or template is suitably changed and amended in a way that it addresses directly and most pertinently, the position that you seek to get.
