Video Resume - Now enact your Curriculum Vitae

Free Resume Examples Articles : Video Resume - Now enact your Curriculum Vitae by Aditya Kumar

The resume, which has become one of the most important accessories for job search, has seen a lot of changes over time. Before typewriters and printers became popular, job applicants would carry a handwritten copy of their resume with them. Typewritten copies of resumes were in style until now. Now there has been a major change in fashion in resumes once again. Video resumes are all the rage today.

A video resume promises to be interesting, unlike the boring piece of document that the old printed resume was. The job applicant shoots himself on video answering to certain selected questions. And every time there's a career opportunity in sight, the video is made available to the employer.

Thanks to the increased access to video cameras, now creating a video resume is really easy. If you cannot afford a high priced digital video camera, nor do you want to engage a professional agency for the purpose, use your cell phone instead.

Preparation is the key to an effective video resume. Just as we would want our printed resume to be impeccable, giving the best to the shooting will be necessary. Dress immaculately, just as you would on the D-day. Practice the regular questions about your qualifications, experience, career etc. The introduction and the conclusion to the resume must be well rehearsed. Precise introductions, explaining well your purpose of calling are acceptable. The closing must force the employer to action. Career discussions can significantly help in this preparation.

For jobseekers who are applying from out of town, video resumes can be a ticket to winning job search. The prospective employer gets to know better of you, than a paper resume would have revealed. So when you receive a call from the employer, you know that you have already made a mark on the employer.

When shooting a video resume, keep in mind that you have a very small attention span of the employer. So try to emphasize and prioritize your most important skills in the shortest possible time. Also include visuals such as you leading a seminar, getting an award etc.

However, video resumes haven't altogether substituted the paper resumes. They still need to be attached for more objective information on the applicant.

Also ensure that there are adequate arrangements for playing the CD or DVD carrying your video resume. In case the CD doesn't play, don't panic. Give your best shot in person and I bet that you will come out with flying colours.

Stand Out From The Resume Crowd With Video

Stand Out From The Resume Crowd With Video by Madison Lockwood

Video Resume : Talk to an executive recruiter - or better yet, a professional "we'll get you hired for a price" recruiter - and they'll tell you that these days, resumes sent to large firms are first scanned for keywords and format and that only the appropriate survive. Digital vetting has come to the human resources profession; moreover, the notion of creating a single page resume that will jump out of a pile of similar documents and generate an interview has become a frightful challenge.

Some enterprising individuals have decided to harness digital technology themselves and create video resumes. At present this is a fledgling professional function - more a popular notion than anything else - but like all things Internet, it is likely to grow rapidly provided enough HR professionals find them useful and not too time consuming.

A video resume is usually the creation of its subject. Certainly there are digital graphics designers who work with video and who will prepare a video resume for a fee. But the enterprising individuals who are attempting to use them currently are, for the most part, creating their own. Like a good YouTube piece, a video resume can make use of limited and short video bites interspersed with stills. That format allows the resume creator to provide the usual information in print and reinforce it with video and voice over that reinforce the image he or she wishes to portray.

Like a good cover letter, a good video resume is designed to leave an impression. For that reason, the best of the lot - and there are not yet many - use humor to catch the eye, and ear, of the reviewer. Some are parodies of the profession - one applicant for a Washington lobbyist profession worked up a video resume about himself that was a take-off on campaign commercial clichés. An example: "Valeria Vegas. The job needs Valeria and Valeria needs the job!"

There have also been examples of video resumes that were overly self-complimentary and that have become tremendous embarrassments to the person(s) who created them because they have been put into wide circulation on the Internet. Those that are standard, personal introductions simply add dimension to what has traditionally been a single sheet of paper.

At least one company has emerged touting itself as a site for the posting of video resumes and posting of video materials from companies who are recruiting. This organization has, to date, a few hundred participants. There are a number of firms that will create a website for the job seeker and turn it into a job-seeking site that incorporates both video and text - and, presumably, graphics - in order to create a complete presentation.

If you are going to put a video presentation of yourself into circulation that you wish to be taken seriously, it is important to remember that the Internet is still heavily populated with anarchists and cynics. A video that is meant to demonstrate intellectual superiority or enthusiasm can be looked on by many online as rampant puffery, worthy of a good laugh. If that's the case, your video resume may go much wider circulation than you'd like and become a subject of ridicule.

Use of a personal website for this purpose would seem to be the best choice. You can garner the help of professionals to assemble it and you can send it out in the form of a URL. In the direct mail business, the trick is to get the recipient to open the envelope. With a video resume, a dedicated URL (as opposed to a confusing YouTube page with all the sidebars) puts you one click away from a personal presentation - half an interview, so to speak.

Details And Benefits Of Sending A Video Resume

Details And Benefits Of Sending A Video Resume by P. Majestyck

Video Resume : Are you interested in applying for a new job? If so, you have probably begun to get your resume together. But guess what? Old school paper resumes are no longer all the rage. Instead, more and more people are looking into what video resumes have to offer. No, these are not the perfect solution for every job applicant, but you will definitely want to look into what they have to offer. As you can imagine, a video resume may be able to put you above and beyond the other applicants. But of course, this is only the case if you do a good job.

When it comes to a video resume there is a lot that you need to keep in mind. First off, you must make for absolute sure that the quality is as good as possible. If you send a low quality video resume you are not going to appeal to many hiring managers. But if you send a video resume that makes you look good and is professional, you will definitely be onto something.

In addition to quality, you want to make sure that you do not get too carried away with your video resume. Remember, you are going to have the ability to say whatever you want; just like with a paper resume. But just because you can say whatever you want does not mean that you should go off the deep end. Instead, stick to everything that you would say in a paper resume. This includes information on your past jobs, education, and special skills.

Remember, when you send a video resume the recipient is going to be able to see you. This means that you will want to look your best. Not only should you dress like you are going to a job interview, but also make sure that the background is not too intrusive. If possible, shoot your video resume up against a plain white background. This will help the viewer to concentrate on you, and not everything else.

The main benefit of a video resume is that you can really show what your personality is all about. This is very important to some hiring managers, and if you can put on a good show, you are definitely going to have a chance at the job. But remember, even though you want to do your best, you also want to act like yourself. In other words, be genuine instead of trying to convey somebody you are not.

Video resumes are becoming very popular. If you are thinking about using this method of securing a job you are not alone. Just make sure that your video resume is of high quality, that you dress appropriately, and that you act genuinely.

Video Resumes - Are They Really The Future?

Video Resumes - Are They Really The Future? by Joy Chou

Video Resume : The buzz around video resumes has been going on for some time now, yet we have seen an explosion on the usage.

With the low cost of webcams and the ease of implementation of video recording software and technology, more and more companies are moving away from traditional marketing means such as print ads and TV commercials to online video advertising. People have found that short video clips are easy to digest and deliver (Share with a friend!). It is also a known fact that images and sound sell much better than words written on a piece of paper (or words shown on your computer screen). The biggest benefit of using online video advertising is that it creates a more personal bond with the viewer.

Therefore, video resume seems to be the logical evolution to traditional paper resume because you can form an instant bond with the reviewer to better market yourself; you are no longer just a piece of paper in the reviewer's hands.

However, why hasn't video resume been widely adopted by hiring companies?

First of all, when a job position opens, a company would usually receive hundreds of applications. Recruiters would need to sort out resumes in a timely manner to set up interviews. Because of the time crunch, the average time a recruiter spends on going through a copy of printed resume is about 20 seconds, no more than 30.

If a recruiter hopes to spend the same amount of time sorting out applications in order to achieve the same timeframe to start the interview process, it means a video resume would need to have a length of no more than 30 seconds.

What can you say in a 30-second video that's presentable without rushing? Not much.

Keep in mind, too, that while viewing your video, the reviewer needs to make notes on points you're making. He or she may need to replay the video again to catch some of the points. Now a 1-minute video may turn into a 2-minute view, which would delay application filtering process.

This is a scenario where written words can pack in much more information on a piece of paper than a video clip.

Secondly, because you are able to see the face of the applicant prior to making a decision on calling the candidate in for an interview, some companies may not want to adopt this method of job application due to possible gender, racial, or age discrimination issues.

A written resume allows the applicant to remain faceless and allows the hiring company to be mostly neutral about the applicant's gender, race, and age. Traditional resumes allow applicants to compete fairly for an interview based on skills and qualifications presented to the hiring company in the same format.

Traditional resumes could offer protection to hiring companies from possible lawsuits.

With that said, I am not completely dismissing the use of videos in job application process. Video is a great technology and a useful tool. If anyone would like to use videos in this process, my suggestion is to use a hybrid approach: Replace traditional cover letters with video clips that are no more than 30 seconds, and keep resumes in printed format.

This method makes sense because the applicant would be able to make an introduction in person via video to talk about basic qualifications and skill sets allowing the "best possible first impression" to be made, and leave all the glory details in the traditional format that is easy to scan by the reviewer. This way, recruiters would still be able to sort out applications efficiently within a reasonable timeframe, while making highlights and notes on applicants' resumes to determine eligibility for an interview.

The use of video resumes can be effective and exciting. However, traditional resumes will never go away... Just like email will never replace fax.
